When the prestigious Teagle Foundation decided to review its space needs, it did so in order to meet two important goals. It wanted to replace its law-firm-like layout of private offices with a more open, collaborative environment. And it wanted the quality of the interior's materials, furnishings and atmosphere to reflect its mission to foster and support the best in higher education. The question was whether to renovate its existing Rockefeller Center location or relocate. Working with Sydness Architects, the foundation decided to start over in a new location - an entire tower floor in the landmark General Electric Building on Manhattan's east side.
Taking advantage of the floor's city-wide views available on three sides, the architects developed several possible layouts. The client selected the plan that gave its staff optimum visibility, good working adjacencies, a large conference room for the foundation's board, and appropriate locations for the extensive art collection owned by the foundation.
