Some weeks ago we finished an 8 day workshop with CITA, Center for Information Technology and Architecture. It’s one of the four Institutes at the Kunstakademiets Arkitektskole. Their research and execution focuses on the intersection of architecture and digital technologies. The theme of the workshop Woven Wood Architecture is an example of one of their ongoing projects. During the workshop we explored the possibilities of using wood, thin strips of MDF, as the material to weave walls. We explored a variety of joints and methods of treating the wood to understand the performance and later we build them at 1:1. It was a good break from our studio projects. We also got a chance to learn Grasshopper, a plug-in for Rhino. With Grasshopper we introduced a variety of parameters into the design, and we were able to have a clearer concept and design. Here are some images of the workshop:
We started another workshop this week in conjunction with Unit 14 at the Bartlett. We will be working with Arduino and learning some processing.
