    Sketch Problem 1

    By AlbertWang

Posting some photos of our one-day Sketch Problem—it’s basically a 1-credit required class where we’re given a design problem at 9am, and given about 12 hours to design a solution via model and drawings. They kept calling it a charette, but there wasn’t much of a collaborative effort, or sharing of ideas. It was however pretty intense, and really made us work our butts off and overall a pretty awesome experience....other than the fact that it ate up my saturday.

We were basically tasked with designing an artist’s studio, given the dimensions, and asked to implement direct and indirect sunlight. Representatives from Velux, a skylight company, came and introduced us to a number of their products, which also included solar water heaters (those are the black panels on my model).

Below are photos of my work on display along with a few other’s whose work was chosen out of the seminar.

i think your model is the best one. that would make an awesome studio. how long did it take to build? because it looks like it would take me the whole 12 hours.

Hey Lisa good to hear from you!
It took me about 3 hours to build. Thank god for the laser cutter b/c that minimized the amount of cutting time. I strongly encourage you to take the laster cutter orientation when you get here. People don't take advantage of the fact that we have laser cutters here! I never understood why people don't.

Sketch problem is a pretty intense day--plan on getting drunk afterwards! ha ha. it is a pass/fail thing though so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
