Medicity is a holistic health center/ hospital in Gurgaon that opened earlier this year. Medicity is a 1600-bed hospital, the largest in all of Asia, and a center for holistic medicine. This is a project that is very close to our heart. The Trehan family, who formulated the vision and encouraged a detail-oriented execution of the project, were wonderful people to work with. We wanted to create an uplifting and happy space far removed from how we generally see hospitals. It was a tremendous opportunity to create a difference, especially amongst people who were unwell and recuperating. Light & Lighting can be a very powerful healer and seeing the result was gratifying. The entrance lobby ceiling features recess-lit reveals cut in the shapes of elements of the DNA helix structure. A large, eye-catching installation titled “Tree of Life,” by renowned sculptor Mitch Cretin, figures prominently at the hospital entrance and is backlit. Though we could not achieve all our goals in phase 1, we look forward to meeting them in phase 2.
