Marfa is a small city located in the rural high desert of Trans-Pecos in West Texas. This area is known to artists and architects as a cultural center, hosting Donald Judd’s legacy as the Chinati Foundation and Judd Foundation.
The site for this project was located NW of Marfa, outside the city limits. Situated on the south side of US-90, this rural location is free from noise and light pollution. This desert has a strange beauty to it, a poetic nature that was not to be disturbed, but enhanced by the lodging establishment. The objective was to supply short-term lodging to visitors who would like to receive the same quality experience at their temporary residence as they do in the eclectic scene of Marfa.
Maintaining the artistic themes generating from the cities culture, the motel takes on a poetic quality and engages with the desert.
