This project was a proposition for a fabrication workshop with the alliance of a community center. The site was situated along the Frisco Bicycle Trail, and within walking distance of both Fayetteville High School and The University of Arkansas. To make this building accommodating to this group of people was essential.
Emphasizing the interpretation of the shed typology, the materiality was derived from local building materials – structural brick walls, steel truss beam roof system with a pitched metal panel surface. The system used on the proposal has a slope designed to collect water and to capture zenithal daylight and disperse it evenly over the workspace.
In addition, precedent analysis for the shed typology required the study of Pier Luigi Nervi and his design of reinforced long span concrete structure. The 1:100 sectional model was built in Rhinoceros as a 3D model, exported in groups to a 2D laser-cut file, and assembled with bass wood pieces.
