The House of Eli was created to be a transitional living residence for boys aging out of foster care and juvenile systems and to provide them with a safe and comfortable housing.
The intent of the project was to renovate a three bedroom, two story house in Sherman, TX with the support of a new addition into a home that can accommodate nine young men between the ages of 18-21 as well as space for activities and large gatherings. The house features an open floor plan, connecting the kitchen, dining, and living rooms. The north wall opens up to the back yard from the kitchen with the purpose of unifying the activities.
Working directly with the founder, I was involved from the commencement of the project with on site measurements and schematic design. I communicated directly with the owner to recognize the conditions that were essential to the building’s functional success. Working with the principal architect, the most accommodating floor plan was designed and I created the drawings to be used in its construction.
