We planned and designed this waterfront complex in Upper Manhattan working with the concession holder, municipal agencies, and the city’s Department of Parks & Recreation. Part of Mayor Bloomberg’s Waterfront Action Agenda, the goal was to create a landmark destination along the Hudson River bike path on an undeveloped parcel of waterfront property. The cluster of open, casual structures features an a restaurant, café and event space, around an intimate new courtyard as its centerpiece. Under soft ambient lighting, the lounge and restaurant’s opening glass walls blur the boundary between indoors and outdoors, exploiting the waterfront setting and views. Natural hues of weathered wood, rusted steel and plant-covered walls echo the area’s vernacular waterfront architecture.
