Client: Tehran Stock Exchange Organization
Function: Office Building
Gross Floor Area: 30,000 sqm
Realization: 2013-2015
This entry for the New Tehran Stock Exchange architectural competition which was the result of a partnership with a German architectural office is based on simplicity, flexibility and the possibility of rapid construction while creating a piece of urban landmark. The unnecessary complicated forms have been therefore avoided and replaced by pure minimalistic ones.
The Concept is based on a pure cube accommodating all office floors around a huge, internal void in the form of a ‘rotating square’. This void plays multilateral roles: from the mere functional point of view it acts as a natural ventilation shaft by sucking the from Ground Floor level all the way up and sending it out to the semi-open ‘roof garden’ on the top floor. This helps a natural ventilation for the office floors in suitable whether conditions and thus reduces energy consumption of the building. From the aesthetic and formal point of view, this rotating void is a resemblance of traditional Iranian architecture ceiling ornaments while being very contemporary using a complicated geometric pattern.
The cube has been split into two parts on top. The upper top part houses the exchange hall in it, thus emphasizing the importance of the exchange hall as the heart of a stock exchange building while giving the building a symbolic conceptual value.
Splitting the building at the top has added functional values: it not only makes the natural ventilation possible through the central void, but also provides the users with a roof garden with vistas towards the city.
