The Intelligence Community Campus Bethesda (ICCB) consists of three renovated facilities connected by the “Centrum,” a new structure which accommodates centralized functions focused on creating innovative, flexible, and collaborative spaces. The project is over 800,000 SF and emulates a campus-like typology through creative interplay of massing, materiality, and color. ICCB develops a respectful and sympathetic relationship to the surrounding neighborhood and seeks a common aesthetic aimed at elevating the human spirit while adhering to strict security requirements. The minimal material pallet consists of glass, metal, and cast stone, which help define an iconic structure while maintaining respect for the natural environment and the building’s place within the community.
