Bedford Road Mid-Century Modern

The owners of this house spent a long time seeking out a single-level mid-century house in the area. And while a large family room/gym addition had been added to the front, the rest of the house had small rooms and bathrooms and inadequate closet space. The primary goal was to enlarge these spaces throughout and to reorganize the layout to provide improved separation between the active kids’ play areas and the adult private and entertaining areas.

  • The low living room center of the house is to be removed and replaced with a longer, higher space that connects the front of the hosuje to the back. It adds dedicated circulation to the master suite and a sunken sun room that leads out to a new large rear patio. Additionally, a long skylight runs the length of this space, flooding the core of the home with natural light.

  • A small addition to the corner of the existing kitchen area removes the current unneccessary division of the space, making it more open and coinnected to the dining area.

  • Another addition at the North-West corner creates a large master suite with a home office and a large skylit master bathroom and wardrobe area.

  • The entrance is greatly improved buy making an interior connection from the garage through a mudroom and past an enlarged guest suite. The existing laundry closet is replaced by a powder room in the entry hall. A larger, more functional laundry room is placed back by the bedrooms.
