Syosset Common

Competition Entry for Build a Better Burb Competition. The town, located at a busy crossroads, has been overwhelmed by commuter parking, and through traffic to major roads. Formerly, Syosset was a picturesque village providing the connection to NYC for surrounding farms and estates. In the proposed design, parking flows at ground level under a new pedestrian and commerce level with a framework for temporary and permanent shops. A higher level is devoted to gardens, bridging across the train tracks that divide the town, reestablishing the private estate gardens of the town’s past as a commons for the village.
