Micro-Blocking Broadway

Broadway-Fillmore was the second busiest intersection in New York state (1940), after Times Square. Large-scale disinvestment and suburban-style development have compromised the neighborhood's historic fabric and function, eliminating basic access to essential programs that sustain life. Restoring the district's density through 'micro-blocking' offers a means to parcel intimidating superblocks and activate strategic zones of development. Microblocks create the potential to revitalize abandoned streetscapes by implementing public programs anchored with public spaces and mixed-use structures. With amenities catered towards restoring the community's economy and infrastructure, the approach ensures Broadway-Fillmore will not be forgotten in the Buffalo Renaissance.
