St. Cecilia Parish

BLOOM was selected to design a group of new community spaces, a new entry pavilion, and a courtyard garden at St. Cecilia Parish.

The transparent entry pavilion serves as a beacon to welcome the public inside, and creates a separate entrance to mark this new, open-to-the-public space. The modern design complements the historic facades and echoes an existing entrance on Belvidere Street. Inside the pavilion, a new central elevator and stair connect four levels in a pinwheel configuration.

The garden level was completely reconfigured to place the new Parish Kitchen, Fellowship Hall and coffeehouse in the physical "heart" of the building, occupying the open space between two courtyard gardens. The warm, wood-lined spaces are conceived as a comfortable neighborhood hangout, and will also feed the hungry,  and host events, talks and live music. Berklee College of Music students will also spend time here between their classes in the four new teaching spaces that are shared with the Church.

Nearby, a new Family Center houses children’s programming on Sundays, and other programs throughout the week. It was designed with a flexible configuration and moveable millwork on wheels, to allow change throughout the week. Above, a new Community Center was created to host movie nights, choir practice, group meetings and other programs.
