Chef Barry Edelman had a vision for a contemporary French bistro restaurant that would be both a neighborhood establishment, and a destination for the local region. We transformed two tenant spaces into one, exposed the structure, and opened up the main facades with full height glass. This set the stage for a large bright room, with exposed industrial elements, clean lines, warm tones, traditional tiles and inventive lighting. To take the edge off of the otherwise acoustically "live" space, integrated ceiling panels and a wine cork wall were employed. The openness of dining room, lounge, bar, and partially open kitchen, give the space a modern airiness. The configuration also lends itself to many types of patron experience, from a formal dinner party, to a business lunch, or quick cocktail with a friend. 5CK has become an integral part of the social life of the community in Marblehead.
