290 Highland

Our 290 Highland Avenue project was built on a neglected lot near Somerville's Davis Square. After productive dialogue with the surrounding community and the City of Somerville, our design for a mixed-use building gained full support and approval. With 7 residential units and a large commercial space, it provides bicycle-friendly green housing; generous open-plan units with varied layouts; an affordable unit; an elevator, and outdoor spaces. Above the street level commercial space, a variety of unit sizes and configurations create seven unique unit layouts, focusing on individual access to outdoor space. Street-level plantings and roof garden areas soften the facades, while a mix of exterior materials create an appropriate sense of scale for the adjacent residential neighborhood. The ADA accessible design incorporates an elevator for direct entry into units, enclosures for bicycle storage, and an affordable two-bedroom unit. The project is seeking LEED Gold/Energy Star certification.
