BLOOM was hired to renovate the kitchen and surrounding rooms, and bring the mismatching 1990's portion of the house up to date. We eliminated columns, stripped ornate moldings, and raised ceilings to create a clean envelope to work within. The resulting layout emphasizes an open flow of space, a connection to the landscape and outdoor living spaces, and functional workspace for the home's center of activity. The client wanted something that felt appropriate for the more historic home, yet modern and current, which translated to a aesthetic pared down to essential elements, highlighting beautiful materials and accents.
Storage was important for the clients and their young family, so in order to balance the openness of the opposite cooking area, we created a bank of concealed storage, containing a pantry, cookbooks, electronics, and art supplies. Low open shelves created a perfect spot for kid-accessible books and storage.
The color palette was kept neutral and warm, with bold moments such as dark green cabinetry, black windows and doors, and a luminous green ceiling in the laundry /mud room.
