New spaces for exhibition in the Archeological Museum “Paolo Giovio” in Como

The proposed extension of the Archeological Museum “Paolo Giovio” in Como was born from the intention to enhance the area behind the historic site of the museum near the medieval walls in Lecco avenue, currently occupied by an embankment. The area is potentially very attractive due to the presence of two city museums, the historical and the archaeological, and for the presence of part of the medieval walls. For this reason it is planned to equip this space by new museum rooms and public pathways open near the walls. The desire to mend the existing historic buildings with the new architecture is to be found in the design of open spaces linking the two realities, in considering the existing alignments, not only in relation to the full but also to road layouts and empty spaces which define this city.
