Hi Archinect!
For a very long time, I have been looking for a new job. Changing jobs among intern architects seems to be a normal trend. Some of my friends have even changed three jobs in two years. So, after a year and a half, I thought it's about time for me to learn something new.
Like many others, my goal was to work in the city. And like many others, I have sent out tons of resumes to many firms in the city, but still haven't gotten any response. As I was giving up, I remembered after I had an interview once with a firm that I really liked, the architect told me they would keep me in mind in the future. Granted it wasn't in the city, but the interview went extremely well and they put a lot of effort into IDP, which is very important to me. So I followed their website for a while, and finally saw that they were hiring for intern architects. Bingo! I sent them an email to reconnect with them. Even though it's been 9 months since we last talked, but they still remember me and a week later they called me to offer me a job.
They say it's all about connections these days. I see it more about how much you really want the job. Over the past year, I have edited my resumes and work samples continuously so that I can be seen as a professional candidate rather than just a student right out of school. Our architectural dreams might not be fulfilled yet, but every little step we take will eventually get us closer to what we want. It is a lifelong process, but I believe that I will get to where I want to be.
For the past whole year, I have been doubting myself on my ability to become an architect. I have even tried to look at other ways of making a living instead of architecture. I wanted to QUIT architecture and I even said I hated architecture. But the truth is we just have to keep working. It's challenging, but wasn't that one of the reasons why we picked architecture in the first place?
Just a little shout out to my fellow interns...
Never give up. We will all get there.
If you have any never give up story, share with us!
P.S. Starting a new job in a week! I will keep you posted.
Thanks for reading.

Documenting the life between our graduation from architecture school and becoming a licensed architect. They say it's the journey that matters, so here we are experiencing the joy of being a great intern.

This very encouraging. I appreciated the article and enjoyed the reading it.
Congrats! I'm in a similar situation - an intern (who got laid off) and just started my new job this week - 1400 miles away! It's exciting and stressful but things will settle down eventually on this roller coaster ride, right?
Good luck in that new step you are heading :) I appreciated the share and found it very encouraging.
Good luck!! This was very inspiring, as I'm in the same boat (especially in regards to the last part about looking for other non-related work). I hope you continue blogging your experiences!

Yes, it will definitely settle down. But I like the exciting part of accepting new changes too! My new job will be an hour drive for me though. Are you relocating for yours?
