Student Ownership Housing - ARCH 2266

"The Student Home Ownership program is designed to prepare society- ready graduates. Students will design, build and own their own zero energy home on a 60' x 100' lot. The program will be a multiple-discipline, managed operation where those selected to participate must agree to work with faculty and staff adviser to clean up their credit, adopt a budget, pay mortgage, property taxes, register to vote, maintain both the building and the yard, etc. One site is on the NE corner of Clark Street and Thompson Street. There is an old concrete slab there now."- Mayor Frank D. Jackson

For this particular project, we were tasked to design a home using a large rectangle of a 42' x 50' site. It is to be 1 floor. Our task was to make a zero energy home that would be self sustaining. We were also to research the climate, vegetation, topography, and surrounding characteristics. A few of the focuses for this project were to understand and prevent heat gain, research how natural light and cross ventilation work within a project design. Taking these main aspects in, I was able to develop a design that would tend to these problems.
