Space & Image

This is a team work of six, as a construction studio in GSAPP, Columbia University. We start the project by looking at the relationship between space and image. People get the understanding of the space by perceiving continuous images. In some circumstances, space could be flattened, distorted or camouflaged by images.
In this project, we tried to blend images and space together. The tunnel, defined by two sets of interlocking
ribs, tries to communicate the relationship between space and images to the public. The twisting form of project is generated following the inspiration of a dynamic image, and the space in turn conveys corresponding images.
The site locates in the west coast of Mumbai, India. It takes five days from cutting materials to installing the pavilion, with the help of 20 students from Mithibai College. The local community interacts a lot after the completion of the project.
