As a young man from mainland China, I finished my graduate study in Architecture from the University of Southern California in 2016 and in Architectural Conservation from The University of Hong Kong in 2011. In addition to my academic qualifications, I also have practical experience as an Architectural Assistant in LU TANG LAI Architects (LTL) in Hong Kong for more than 2 years. During this period, I have involved with a series of projects including residential developments, social housing, commercial development and public facilities in Hong Kong and mainland China. Under the support of my director, I have developed a comprehensive understanding and skills of project plans and design, technical detailing, presentation preparation, coupled with the ability to manage the associated documentation, coordinate with different parties, and accomplished an ideal outcome.
My path to explore Architecture is not always easy. Because of my cultural background from Mainland China and educational background in Architectural Conservation, I have been questioned and undervalued in the early stage of my work in the architectural office in Hong Kong. Through my down-to-earth effort and progressive attitude, I gradually won the trust of my colleagues and recognition from my director and clients. However, the strong desire to be a professional architect drove me to pursue further study in architecture in the US. The pay of hard work by day and application preparation by night was difficult, but the gain of enrollment to the dream school was excited. The past life trained me to be well organized, independent, and responsible.
As a young graduate, I always want to apply my professional skills and passion in architecture to benefit the society. I have volunteered as a heritage specialist to complete the on-site survey and drawing documents for the School House of St. Stephen’s College, and help it become a Declared Monument in Hong Kong in 2011.
