The Salk Institute, designed by Louis Kahn, is the the site of many profound impacts in the prevention of disease. Following its construction and founding in 1960, a demand for affordable, close-by housing arose for many of the employee. The Salk Institute Housing, adjacent to the Salk Institute itself on the cliffs of Torrey Pines in California, emulates the spaciousness of the institute, and would provide locations for circulation, green space, housing, and healthy recreation for the employees of the Salk Institute.
