About

I am licensed architect in the Netherlands and the UK (Architects Registration Board) with 20 years of relevant experience. I teach Architecture History and Theory at Kean University.

As principal of tw.studio I collaborate with many practices and have worked for distinguished clients. Most recently I worked as a Senior Designer for S9 Architects in NYC on commercial and mixed-use projects. At Morris Adjmi Architects I defined the design concept on many successful residential urban infill projects in historic districts. Other work included a pedestrian commercial district, ground-up residential, hospitality and commercial work.

The projects I was most intimately involved with, namely 45 east 7th street and the Grand Mulberry in Little Italy, have been recognized through awards and coverage in the regular and professional press, such as the NYT, deZeen and Metropolis. My day-to-day included client presentations, DOB and LPC submissions, as well as internal design reviews. For 625 and 658 Driggs Ave in Williamsburg, two residential projects of 30,750SF and 27,000SF respectively, I worked with the design team to put together construction documents and did construction administration.

Before moving to New York I worked for three years as project architect at David Chipperfield Architects in London, UK, where work included the adaptive re-use of the Grade I listed High House for the internationally renowned artists Antony Gormley and Vicken Parsons.

Passionate, driven and socially conscious, I always aim to make a difference in a team. My preferred working method is to combine computer aided design in 3D with model building and sketching. Strong concepts and effective storyboards are developed to work through a design problem and communicate solutions to the design team and client. My excellent communication skills, charm and integrity foster strong personal relationships. I combine pragmatism with idealism and have been able to get numerous complex projects across the finish line.

I graduated in 2005 from the Master of Science in Advanced Architectural Design (MScAAD) at Columbia University on a Fulbright Scholarship and hold a Master of Architecture Degree from Delft University (2001). My first array in architecture was a social housing project in Duncan Village township in East London, South Africa for the NGO Afesis-Corplan. This early experience has inspired my work towards a more just and beautiful society ever since. I write articles for publications such as Archined.nl and Blueprint Magazine.
