The Lighting Practice has an ongoing collaborative relationship with Target as they continue to re-envision and refresh their traditional large format store design and develop the new urban/flexible format stores. Our designers support Target’s internal team in the development of lighting solutions that reinforce brand, enhance the guest experience, and promote sales.
Situated along a Chicago River inlet within the heart of the city, Target Streeterville is a great example of Target’s new urban/flexible format store. The store is located in a former loft-style factory building. The design team chose to maintain the industrial feel of the space by highlighting the exposed wood rafters, brick, and concrete floors. Non-evasive methods were used to add a modern vibe – large graphics applied to the brick replace traditional signage and linear LED wallwashers provide accent lighting. The main sales floor uses simple industrial LED pendant luminaires to provide general ambient illumination, while small LED track heads add pops of light directing focus to feature displays. Edge-lit acrylic fins float above the checkout lanes highlighting the destination in a glow of light.
