Eurostadium

Brussels will be one of 13 host cities of the Euro 2020 soccer championship. A new stadium, to be selected through a architectural competition, will be realized in Brussels to accommodate the event and serve as home base for the national football team (the Red Devils).

The stadium will boast 50,000 seats, with a possible 10,000 additional places for  special events.

The new stadium will be open air and host 31 programmed matches a year as well as other events.

The goals and recommendations of UEFA formed the general framework for each aspect of the design process. The primary design challenge however is to reconcile UEFA’s expectations with the commercial priorities of the private partners. In this regard, the Eurostadium has to be both a national sports temple as a commercially viable multi-functional complex, able to accommodate an extremely wide range of functions (performances , parties , shows, restaurants, conferences , ...).

The stadium will be realized by 2019 and is estimated to cost 314 million euro, to be financed entirely by the private sector. The final selection is expected in the beginning of 2015.
