In the summer of 2009, my older sister got married to her husband Asaf Hanish. I offered to design and build the chuppah for their ceremony which was being held at the University of Pittsburgh's chapel, Heinz Chapel. During the summer, Heinz chapel sees a high volume of weddings per day, so a design that was inspired by Japanese joints and connections was utilized to provide for quick assembly and disassembly. The chuppah's design intended to reference the lines of the ornamental gothic inspired chapel while maintaining a modern minimalistic design that would not be overpowering or out of place.
