This two-semester long project started with an extensive look at the history of various methods of home delivery systems. The research focused on topics such as fabrication methods, transportation, assembly units, unit montage, performance as well as marketing strategies.
Once a thorough understanding of home delivery systems was established, each student proposed a method in which pre-fabricated units could be applied in an innovative way.
This project proposes capitalizing on the ease of the on-site montage of pre-fabricated homes to promote community participation. A type of community that lends itself to this kind of collaboration is Co-housing (a Danish system of living where the community is self-sustained). By creating a scenario where residents partake in the montage and upkeep of their homes, pre-fabricated homes generate a sense of pride in the co-housing community.
