Jiangwan New Town Tishman Speyer, New York
Shanghai, China while with RNL/Charlesgroup
The task was a strategic opportunity planning study to help identify the right phased development approach for the site and to determine the right character and place making principles for the centerpiece retail and public spaces that link to the adjacent mass transit node. I worked closely with our creative director to offer the Kohn Pederson Fox team strategic input regarding phasing and the addition of retail to their ‘in progress” master plan. The master plan was an extended city grid bisected by a north - south river walk spine. This spine acted as a center connector of the districts, so we metaphorically called the connector a rope, tied a knot in the rope adding a focus along the spine. This knot became a set of entertainment retail islands providing the project with a center focus or heart.
