The weather monitoring centre's site was in the heart of St Andrews Main Street. This required it to be a part of the urban fabric whilst still providing the varied spaces required from the brief. A glass and steel wall keeps the line of the old street whilst two buildings are arranged to provide a new public space in the town centre. The glass wall creates a greenhouse effect, helping the centre produce its own food for its cafe. Public and private spaces are separated audialy but, in certain places, not visually to allow views from classroom spaces to workspaces and from public circulation to weather monitoring instruments on the roof.
