Urban housing project in the east end of Glasgow. The masterplan was designed as a group and I designed one block of housing within it. The height of my block was limited to allow south light into the communal courtyard and therefore a horizontal arrangement of access points was the most efficient. A hierarchy of public and private spaces were arranged around the deck access. The flats use very little energy, taking advantage of solar gain with south facing conservatories, and PV and solar thermal panels produce most of the energy required. A communal greenhouse and wash house on the roof further reduce energy demands and creates a hub for the community to congregate.
