Next we narrowed down the individual ideas to three comprehensive concepts, which we presented to NASA in Houston, TX. We were encouraged to move forward with the concept of the desk becoming the operating table. From that point we broke up into groups and began full scale production of our design. I worked with two other students on creating a lighting unit that could reach the extent of the deployed operating table as well as provide task lighting for research. Our biggest challenge was creating a joint that provided for maximum flexibility of the lamp positions. At the end of the semester we disassembled the components and shipped them to NASA to be tested in Arizona in a prototype pod.
