For this studio we were tasked with designing a medical emergency and research center in cooperation with NASA. As part of a larger unit to be sent to the moon, the medical portion was allotted a one-eighth slice of a cylindrical pod measuring about six yards in diameter. The first part of the semester we spent developing our individual solutions for the medical center and designing and fabricating an exhibit to be on display at the Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC) on campus. The priority in my design concept was to make the every day research space as efficient and comfortable as possible, but still capable of transitioning into an operating area. The exhibit consisted of clear and backlit translucent plastic vacuum formed modules.
