This Fourth Year topic studio was guided by Janek Dombrowa in the Spring of 2010.
The design problem was to design a multi-use hotel, residence, and commercial building on the bluffs of Santa Monica California.
While the theme of each of the building pieces that the studio focused on were centered on escapism and fantasy, the aditional program and housing component focused on a much more pragmatic and real problem in the Santa Monica area: homelessness.
Aditional program pieces were encorperated into the design that were specifically geared towards helping those in need get job training and a safe place to live and work. Where sensual spaces and enviroments can nurture both ends of the economic spectrum within the same building and development.
