Milwaukee Public Library

Project Time Frame: 6 Weeks

Week 1-2: Initial Designs & Critiques

Week 3-5: Structural Design & Critiques

Week 5-6:  Final Design & Presentation Preparation

The Milwaukee Public Library project is located on a triangular shaped site across the street from an elementary school.  I took the shape of the lot along with the curve of the streets to create the shapes within my building.  The building is two similar curved rectangles stacked on each other with a pair of metallic structures slicing through each which connect the two floors.  These metallic structures also connect both facades by creating two main entrances.  The two entrances were created because I felt one entrance could alienate one without an entrance.

I enjoyed this project which has helped me go back to change features more and more even after the project time frame was finished.  I have been told ' no design is ever finished and can always be improved'.
