San Juan, PR, US - Willing to relocate
The purpose of this project is to overcome the lack of urban design planning that affect the metropolitan area of San Juan. Two of the main areas of San Juan (Condado and Santurce) are separated by a highway that acts as a barrier between them with limited access both pedestrian and vehicular. This design aims to represent an urban vision focused on the pedestrian with an integration of vehicular circulation as an essential way of transportation in the area.
Concept:
An underground tunnel is proposed in a specific area of the highway to create a direct connection between both zones. Rearrangement of the surface roads is essential to keep the traffic flowing and to enhance the pedestrian traffic to the zone. An urban park is also proposed to connect both visually and physically with an existent linear park that surrounds the Condado Lagoon.
