The complex had undergone severe deterioration due to deficient waterproofing systems. The design intent was to reduce the perceived scale of the buildings and to articulate the details using a California native craftsman vernacular. Additionally, detailed attention was paid to such things as custom light fixtures, railings, stairways and chimney caps. By adding traditionally constructed trellises throughout the site, it was able to further define quaint and lush exterior spaces for residents to enjoy.
