Nexus and Torque

Using Autodesk Maya for the first time and placed into teams of 2 we were given a site adjacent to Margaret Pace Park in Miami, FL. We were to use certain tools within the Maya program to create a pavilion of some kind. My teammate and I manipulated the site by excavating and therefore bringing in more of the ocean water. This allowed us to partially submerge the pavilion creating a water pavilion used for meditation and relaxation.
Only having to do one project, we ended up presenting two different pavilions instead. One water pavilion was named Nexus due to the fact that it was created by linking 3 identical cells, attaching carefully chosen faces of each cell. This created a very open pavilion containing a series of different sized spaces for different kinds of meditation and/or relaxation. The other water pavilion named Torque used a blending technique of a single cell, repeating it and twisting it to creating a pavilion that allows small instances of light to penetrate and when viewed from the outside, seems to feel “alive”.
