Currently working as a first-year MArch studio instructor at the University of Kansas, and spending my spare time working as an independent designer on projects varying in both scale and building type. At the moment, I am working on a schematic remodel for a local motel in Lawrence, KS as well as a remodel for a small condominium in Seaside, Florida.
My first-year studio has just begun their final project for the semester, a Primary School in a small fishing village outside Kinkole in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. I began the project by assigning them case studies of existing schools (mostly design-build projects of European architecture schools) in which they built models and created graphic presentations to educate their piers. We are currently in the early stages of this project, beginning with small parti study models of their intention and slowly moving up in scale. Their work will be regularly posted under Work Updates.
At semester's end, I will be relocating to New York City with the intent of finding an architectural office where I may ultimately achieve licensure.
The University of Kansas, Lawrence, KS, US, Instructor
Instructor for a first-year Architectural Design Studio in the spring semester. Major emphasis on the design relationships among people, architectural space, and the environment. The course is based on a series of exercises leading to the understanding of architectural enclosure as mediating between people and the outside world. Issues of scale, light, proportion, rhythm, sequence, threshold, and enclosure are introduced in relation to the human body, as well as in relation to architectural form, environment, and social and psychological factors. Students engage in drawing, perspective projection, model building, and basic computer graphics.
