Bridgehampton, NY
Taking advantage of the 180° water views provided by the
peninsula-shaped site quickly became this renovation’s main focus.
Shifting all the major gathering areas to the south allowed us to
accentuate the client’s desire for a fluid and direct connection to the
water.
Given the expansive site and it’s immediate relationship to the water, the
convoluted geometry of the existing house proved to be less focused on
the views out and more focused on bringing light in. This resulted in a
house that didn’t meet the client’s programmatic desire to seamlessly
integrate the family rooms with the activity on the exterior. Our
proposed design takes advantage of the existing foundation by enlarging
the building footprint as well as simplify both the building envelope
and the interior layout. The pivotal moment of the house is the
expansive double-height entry & living room that connects to all
spaces in the house, further reiterating the focus of bringing together
all the main gathering spaces towards the water.
