Bridgehampton, NY
A constricted site with a nature preserve to its rear inspired us to bring the native landscape indoors. The exploration distilled a sense of humility into the undulating building forms, and in exchange, emphasized the surrounding landscape.
Description:
The square-shaped site for a 3,000 sq ft house would be a challenge. The client’s intention to relate positively to the exterior landscape launched us on a creative search for placement and form. The courtyard house allowed us to span the site, creating year-round courtyards that are experienced throughout the home. The final volumes, defined by building programs, are connected by a glazed hallway—the views of the landscape shaped each space in the house. The eventual form of the roof highlights this experience outward and upward.
