Located adjacent to the new Atlantic Yards development, this mixed use project challenges existing paradigms of programmatic relationships. Containing twenty living units and space for over 300 cars, the form of the building explores the use of minimal surfaces in creating toplogical conditions that navigate between programs with vastly different spatial implications. Throughout the project, parametric software (grasshopper and k3dsurf) and physical modeling were used to iteratively explore the potential of the gyroid component (pictured below). The final design, which merges the horizontal and the vertical through oblique geometries, creates interior spaces that are freed from the typical functionally independent relationships between floor and wall.
