This 10 week long project began with an initial investigation of the current status of Havana, identifying both problems and opportunities for a city that has been in a state of decay for over 50 years. My team’s area of interest involved Havana’s broken transportation system, which has been a serious impediment to growth. Our proposal involved the creation of a hybrid transportation system that would knit together three exiting yet independent networks - the national rail, a coastal ferry system, and an interurban system. On the national scale, the rail system would provide a circulation spine through the interior of the country while smaller coastal ferries would link major population centers located on the coast.
