YAMAHA MOTORS

Yamaha Motor’s new main showroom and headquarters had to be a benchmark in motor retail. The building reflects the duality of the site and the function: while the dynamically formed showroom is located near a busy road, the offices and other service functions are situated in the rear, next to future residential development.

The building’s more open and dynamic part near the main road is a showroom of motor and water sport vehicles. Here the main entrance leads across an artificial lake where the sport boats are exhibited. The undulating glass windows not only represent the dynamism of the motorsport, but also blur the lines between the indoor and outdoor. The rear side in a calmer rectangular form comprises the functions of servicing, warehousing and administration. Here the monotony of the function is intended to be resolved by a playful character of corrugated iron sheets, locked in a frame on the facade. The dual relationship is clearly visible. The shift between the two volumes needs to be emphasized because the site’s character changes at the rear.
