It's already that time of year again when RIBA reveals the Stephen Lawrence Prize shortlist. The Marco Goldschmied Foundation established the annual prize in 1998 in memory of Stephen Lawrence, a teenager who aspired to become an architect but whose life tragically ended when he was murdered in 1993. The 2016 RIBA Awards competition continues! A few weeks after the London Award announcements, the Institute just revealed 46 buildings as National Award winners. The RIBA National Awards celebrate the UK's most outstanding buildings, while offering insight into construction, design, and investment trends in the country. Liverpool's Riba North will have conference facilities and a gallery "at its heart", a spokeswoman said.
It will open in August with an exhibition of designs for Liverpool that were never built.
The centre, which will be housed in the Broadway Malyan-designed Mann Island on the city's waterfront, "will offer a magnificent opportunity to display Riba's historic collections, telling hundreds of years of the UK's extraordinary architectural history", Duncan said.

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) invited six contemporary architecture practices to create speculative responses to the UK’s housing crisis for the exhibition, At Home in Britain: Designing the House of Tomorrow.
Drawing on materials from the RIBA archives, the studios from the UK, France and the Netherlands produced designs that re-examine the familiar housing typologies of the cottage, terrace and flat.

School buildings in the UK are of such poor quality that children are underperforming and teachers are quitting the classroom, experts have warned.
A new study by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) found that one in five teachers have considered leaving their school as a result of stressful, overcrowded working environments caused by the poorly designed buildings they have to teach in.
