"[...] In this project, we're using a living organism as a factory. So the living organism of mycellium, or hyphae, which is basically a mushroom root, basically makes our bricks for us. It grows our bricks in about five days with no energy required, almost no carbon emissions, and it's using basically waste— agricultural byproducts, chopped up cornstalks. This mushroom root fuses together this biomass and makes solid bricks which we can kind of tune to be different properties." — The Creators Project

Jang Won Choi, Kyung Min Kwon, and Cheon Kang Park of collaborative team MOON JI BANG recently won the inaugural Young Architects Program Seoul in South Korea with their proposal, "Shinseon Play". The proposal draws inspiration from traditional Korean mythology with features like gently swaying "clouds", a trampoline, and a grassy meadow -- making it an ideal outdoor installation for the summer season. — bustler.net

Earlier this month, the installation Sky Spotting Stop had been chosen as the first-ever YAP Istanbul Modern winner in conjunction with the Young Architects Programs at MoMA PS1 in New York, MAXXI in Rome and the cultural organization CONSTRUCTO in Santiago, Chile.
Here is now also one of the five YAP Istanbul Modern finalist entries: Tearing the Ground by young Ankara-based firm, ONZ Architects.

The jury – composed of the directors of the MAXXI, representatives of the MoMA and Constructo in Santiago Chile – met on Wednesday 28 November to select the five finalists who, by January 2013, must present their projects for the realisation of a temporary space for live summer events in the MAXXI Plaza.
