Now in its sixth year, the International Highrise Award 2014 went to Bosco Verticale in Milan, Italy by Boeri Studio (Stefano Boeri Architetti and Barreca & La Varra) with developer Hines Italia SGR. The biennial award recognizes high-rise towers around the world that are considered to best combine exterior + interior, sustainable, and social aspects. Acclaimed architect Steven Holl received the Praemium Imperiale International Arts Award medal for architecture in a ceremony in Tokyo today. Japan's Prince Hitachi, honorary patron of the Japan Art Association, formally presented the awards to each of the 2014 laureates. Created in 1988, the prestigious Praemium Imperiale recognizes lifetime achievement in the arts in categories that aren't covered by the Nobel Prize. — bustler.net

Steven Holl Architects has been chosen to design the Qingdao City Culture and Art Center after a unanimous jury decision. Other big-name contenders for the winning spot included OMA and Zaha Hadid Architects.
As part of an extension project in Qingdao, the new design will be 2 million sq. feet consisting of four art museums located in the heart of the city.
