Ann Beha Architects from Boston, MA was selected by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO) for a major rehabilitation project of the U.S. Embassy in Athens, Greece.
Walter Gropius and consulting architect Pericles A. Sakellarios designed the iconic embassy from 1959-1961. The building is also listed as a protected architectural landmark.

Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners has just been revealed as the winner of the RIBA and London School of Economics competition to design the LSE's New Global Centre for Social Sciences.
Rogers Stirk Harbour won the £90 million (US$145M) project against finalists OMA (The Netherlands); Grafton Architects (Ireland); Heneghan Peng (Ireland); and Hopkins Architects (UK).

The winners of the 2013 Structural Awards were revealed last Friday during a ceremony event [...] in London. Hosted by The Institution of Structural Engineers, the annual Structural Awards recognize the talents, the challenging environments, and the invaluable contributions of the world's best structural designers.
Twelve winners from around the world were honored this year, with the Taizhou Bridge in China winning the Supreme Award for Structural Engineering Excellence — the highest title.

Designed by Louis Kahn in 1972, the Kimbell is considered the greatest American museum building of the 20th century. Understandably, the new $135-million addition by Renzo Piano, which at 101,000 square feet (9,383 square meters) just about doubles the Kimbell’s space, has been anticipated with trepidation. — bloomberg.com
UNStudio recently announced another completed project this month: the Kutaisi International Airport in the Republic of Georgia. First presented to the President of Georgia in 2011, the newly built airport will provide domestic and international flights for use by international diplomats, national politicians and tourists. — bustler.net

BIG's latest museum design, the Blåvand Bunker Museum, will be built in the historic dune landscape of Varde in Denmark after the museum received the necessary funding from the A.P. Møller and Chastine Mc-Kinney Møller Foundation.
The museum will transform a former German WWII bunker into a four-volume museum complex — all while fully integrated into one of the dunes.

schmidt hammer lassen architects recently announced winning the competition to design the Vendsyssel Theater and Experience Center, a 4,200 m2 culture facility to be built in Hjørring, Denmark.
Along with the Danish firm, the winning interdisciplinary team included Arkitektfirmaet Finn Østergaard, Brix & Kamp, ALECTIA, Gade & Mortensen Akustik, AIX Arkitekter, Filippa Berglund scenography, and LIW Planning.

A year after gathering ideas on how a eurozone country could leave the single-currency bloc, the organisers of the 2014 Wolfson Economics Prize are plunging into Britain’s highly politicised housing debate and challenging people to design a garden city.
Offering £250,000 in prize money, entrants are required to answer: “How would you deliver a new garden city which is visionary, economically viable and popular?”
