The longlist is out for this year's RIBA Manser Medal for Best New House in the UK. Established in 2001 to honor former RIBA President and notable home designer Michael Manser CBE, the Manser Medal is awarded to the best new house design by a UK-based architect. The Royal Institute of British Architects has announced the winners of the 2014 RIBA National Awards. With 44 buildings in the UK and 12 buildings elsewhere in the European Union, the selected projects will now have the chance to make the shortlist for the coveted RIBA Stirling Prize, awarded annually to the architects of the building that has made the greatest contribution to British architecture in the past year. — bustler.net

DRIFT proposes a triangular arrangement of eight foot diameter balloons that create a dynamic canopy over bourbon tastings, educational spaces for children and other groups. Jurors praised the project for its unexpected playfulness and relationship to historic river imagery. Family-owned Swiss luxury watchmaker Audemars Piguet have chosen BIG, HG Merz, Luchinger & Meyer, and Muller Illien as having the winning design for a new expansion of their headquarters in La Vallée de Joux, La Brassus, Switzerland.
