The Chicago Architecture Center (CAC) has just announced an expanded slate of participants for this year’s Open House Chicago event, which takes place from October 13th to the 15th at various sites scattered across the Windy City.
The event’s 13th overall edition will feature over 170 activated sites in 20 separate neighborhoods and communities. Highlights include a tour of Walt Disney’s childhood home in Hermosa, the historic Riviera Theater in Uptown, and the Willis Tower, which will host a special kickoff event and musical commission on its 33rd floor to mark its opening.
“Open House Chicago makes architecture and design accessible and is a free program for all,” Eleanor Gorski, the CEO & President of the Chicago Architecture Center said in a statement. “The event is a true community venture, and we’re thrilled to collaborate with chambers of commerce, neighborhood organizations, arts and culture organizations and historical societies across the city to bring the festival to life.”
A new smartphone app developed by the CAC will complement this year’s Open House, allowing attendees to create their own self-guided itineraries. A list and map of each of the sites can be accessed on the Open House Chicago website.
